The Katy Freeway eastbound was closed early Friday morning after a big rig collided with the concrete center divider.
According to Houston TranStar, the accident was reported at about 3:30am on Friday. The truck struck the concrete divider, knocking part of it over. The eastbound diamond lane was subsequently closed. As of 5:30am, crews were still working to make repairs, and the issue was expected to last through morning rush hour.
It was not reported whether the driver of the truck suffered injury in the collision.
In this accident, commuters only experienced the hassle of losing a freeway lane on their way to work or school. Had another vehicle been involved, however, the consequences may have been much more serious. Big rigs are extremely large and heavy vehicles, and when they are involved in traffic accidents they have the potential to cause a significant amount of damage. The fact that this big rig knocked out part of a concrete center divider on the Katy Freeway is evidence of the extent of damage such a vehicle may cause.
If another car is involved in a crash with a large truck, or if a big rig collides with a residential or commercial building, serious injuries are likely. If you were involved in an accident with a commercial truck or lost a loved one in such a collision, it is important to understand your legal rights and options. You may be entitled to financial compensation for your injuries, but you will need to present your claim in a clear and compelling manner to prove the fault of the truck driver or trucking company.
