Happy 4th of July from Stern Law Group! During this time of year, we’re thankful to live in a free country that protects the rights of the injured and the wronged - and we know many Texans are as well. However you choose to celebrate the birth of our great nation, we want to make sure you and your family stay safe.
Because the Fourth of July holiday period is a dangerous time of year - with an increase in potential hazards and preventable injuries - our attorneys want to make sure you recognize some common dangers and understand how you can avoid them.
Below is some helpful information and tips to keep you and yours safe this coming weekend!
- Water Safety - For many, the holiday weekend provides time for trips to the beach, lake, or for pool parties with friends and families. If you have plans to enjoy the water, please do so safely - there are numerous risks for drowning and swimming pool accidents. To catch up on some helpful water safety tips, visit our previous blog.
- Consumer fireworks - According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), consumer fireworks account for thousands of emergency room visits each year. While your safest bet is to attend a professionally conducted fireworks display, you can take a number of precautions when lighting fireworks of your own. For example, use fireworks in safe open areas away from people and property, supervise children closely, and make sure to keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby.
- Grills & BBQ - Few things are as fun during the Fourth as grilling. When used improperly, however, grills and barbecues can be dangerous. Protect yourself and your loved ones by using grills outdoors away from structures and any flammable substances. Monitor the grill when in use, supervise children nearby, and use tongs and long handled utensils.
- Drunk Driving Accidents - According to statistics from the National Traffic Highway Administration, the Fourth of July holiday period records some of the highest rates of auto accidents and fatalities of any time during the year. This is primarily due to a surge in drunk driving crashes. Keep our roadways safe this weekend by designating a sober ride or planning for a ride before you drink.
Stern Law Group hopes these tips will help you and yours enjoy the Fourth of July safely. If you have any questions about personal injury claims or your rights following an accident, we’re always available to help!
