Stern Law Group has filed a lawsuit on behalf of two women who were seriously injured in a bus crash near Laredo which killed eight people and injured 44 others. The rollover accident occurred on May 14, 2016 on North U.S. 83 in Webb County. Seven people died at the scene, and an eighth died after being taken to the hospital.
The lawsuit names OGA Charters LLC, of San Juan, as the defendant for failing to adequately maintain or repair the bus. The charter knew that the bus had problems with its emergency exit and brakes, and is further accused of failing to properly train the driver of the bus. According to the complaint, the bus driver failed to use the high degree of care owed to passengers, which led to the fatal accident.
The lawsuit, which has been filed in the Hidalgo County District Court, is seeking more than $1 million in damages. The plaintiffs are also asking for a temporary restraining order to prevent the bus charter from altering or destroying evidence from the crash, including the black box recorder, emails and documents, and other paper records containing employee personnel files.
Further details on this case will be provided online by The Monitor as they become available.
